Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as traditional metal braces, but have clear or tooth-coloured porcelain brackets which appear to blend in to the teeth – making ceramic braces less noticeable.

Are there any drawbacks to Ceramic Braces?

As with all braces, ceramic braces are a big commitment. The braces will be fixed to your teeth permanently, and the entire treatment can take over a year. What’s more, once the treatment is over, you will still have to wear a retainer every night to keep your teeth in place. If you fail to do this, then there’s a risk that your teeth will slip back to their old positions. However, all braces carry this risk, not just ceramic braces.

What’s the difference between metallic and ceramic braces?

Both sets of braces are essentially the same, however the ceramic braces we use have tooth coloured brackets, instead of metallic ones. This offers a huge improvement in aesthetics and our patients find themselves much more confident to smile with them on. A large number of patients we see at Good Dentist are scared of having metallic mouths when it comes to braces and are surprised to see ones which blend in with the rest of their smile.

Here’s a great video where you-tuber Emma Louise goes over the difference between metallic and ceramic braces:
